Roblox does not unlock every feature at one birthday. It uses age groups, age checks, parent permissions, regional rules and account settings together.
The important ages often include 9, 13, 16 and 18, but the exact feature shown to an account can differ. Roblox's current settings page is the final source.
Around age 9
Some younger users need parental consent for experience chat. Content access may also move into a different age-based group, but linked parent controls can remain more restrictive.
Review chat and allowed games before the birthday rather than waiting for the child to notice a new option.
Around ages 13 and 16
Turning 13 does not remove every protection or automatically grant unrestricted chat. Roblox introduced age checks for communication features in 2026, and parent permission may still be required for some users under 16.
At 16, more communication and content options may become available after the required checks. Sensitive-issues content is blocked by default for users under 16 unless a parent allows it where supported.
At 18 and after
An adult account can manage itself, but identity, region and safety checks may still apply to particular features. Existing parent links and controls do not replace an adult conversation about spending and account security.
Roblox changes these systems frequently. Check the official age-transition guide each year and after a major safety update.
