Since January 2026, Roblox has required users to complete an age check before accessing communication features such as experience chat, party chat and voice chat. The result helps decide which chat features and age groups an account can access.
This is an access control, not a promise that every conversation will be safe. Parents should still review the settings and talk with their child about what to do when a conversation becomes uncomfortable.
What changes after an age check
Roblox says age-checked users can generally communicate with users in similar age groups. Trusted friends can unlock some communication across age groups, with the available features depending on age and region.
Users aged 5 to 9 need parental consent to enable experience chat. Users under 16 need parental consent for direct chat. Regional restrictions can still make a feature unavailable even when the age requirement is met.
Voice chat has separate requirements
Voice controls are available to age-checked users aged 13 or older in supported regions and experiences. Roblox states that phone verification alone is no longer a valid way to gain voice access under the current system.
Voice is harder for automated filters to review than ordinary text. A child should know how to disconnect, mute, block and report before using it.
Check the account settings yourself
From a linked parent account, review the communication controls available for the child's age. Do not rely only on what the child remembers seeing, as settings and feature access can change after an age milestone or platform update.
Keep the safety rule simple
Children should leave a conversation and tell a trusted adult if somebody asks for personal information, private images, another messaging app or secrecy from a parent. Save evidence where it is safe to do so, then use the platform tools to block and report the account.
