If Roblox chat is missing, the reason may be your age group, age-check status, parent settings, region or the game itself. Roblox began requiring age checks for communication features in 2026.
There is no single switch that unlocks every kind of chat. Game chat, direct chat and Party chat can have different rules.
Check the account settings
Open Settings and look at Privacy or Parental Controls. A linked parent may have limited who can chat, and some younger accounts need parent permission for certain communication features.
Make sure the date of birth is correct, but do not change it to a false age. Roblox may ask for an age check before showing age-based communication options.
The game may not use chat
Creators can disable normal text chat or replace it with buttons and preset messages. Console controls and the layout of a particular game can also put chat in a different place.
Try another game you know supports chat. If it works there, your account is probably fine and the difference belongs to the first game.
When it may be a technical problem
Restart Roblox and check the Roblox status page if chat suddenly disappears everywhere. An outage can affect messages without taking every game offline.
If the restriction remains and the settings look correct, ask a parent to review the linked account or contact Roblox Support. Never pay another player who claims they can unlock chat.
