A global look at our players
The responses came in from all over the world, with the most significant numbers from the USA, the UK, Australia, and the Philippines. Although many of our players are in the 9 to 12 range, a huge portion of our community is actually made up of teenagers and adults. In fact, about 35% of those who answered are aged 13 to 15, and another 30% are 18 or older. It is not just a community for young children; there are plenty of adults and older teenagers playing daily.A lot of the data changed depending on whether someone was currently on a school break. Since the survey went out in April, many students were home, which naturally led to higher screen time than usual. It is helpful for us to see how these habits shift when the pressure of school is removed.
Free time and gaming hours
On a normal school day, most of our players have a limited window of free time. About 45% reported having 2 to 4 hours, while roughly 20% only manage an hour or less. Once the weekend hits, or school is out for the holidays, that number jumps up significantly. On those days off, nearly 70% of you have 8 hours or more of free time available. When it comes to actual gaming, the numbers are a bit more balanced. About 40% of you spend between 2 to 4 hours gaming daily, while 25% play for more than 6 hours. We noticed that evening and late-night sessions are the most popular times to play. This suggests that gaming is a major way for our community to unwind at the end of the day or stay connected with friends when they cannot meet up in person.
Favourite genres and devices
Roleplay is the most popular category by quite a long way, chosen by over 60% of the people who took part. It seems most people want experiences where they can act out stories or work together in a shared world. This aligns with what we aim for at Laius, where teamwork and social interaction are at the heart of what we do. Simulators and Tycoons are also very high on the list, preferred by about 45% and 35% of players.Mobile phones and tablets are the most common ways to play. Even though many of you have access to a computer or a console like a PlayStation or Xbox, the convenience of a handheld device makes it the primary choice for over 55% of our community.
