Roblox was created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel. They started working on it in 2004, then opened the platform to the public in 2006.
Their idea did not begin with pets, roleplay towns or obstacle courses. It grew from software that let students experiment with physics on a computer.
Before Roblox
Baszucki previously helped create Interactive Physics, an educational program made by Knowledge Revolution. Students could build simple machines, change gravity and watch what happened without needing a real laboratory.
Seeing people use those tools in ways the developers had not planned helped inspire a larger building platform. Instead of receiving one finished game, users would receive the tools to make their own.
Building with other people
Cassel worked with Baszucki on the software and the early company. Together, they developed a platform where creations could be shared online and played by a community rather than staying on one computer.
That community part became just as important as the building tools. Roblox games can now be made by one person or by teams spread across the world.
The idea that stayed
Modern Roblox looks very different from the 2006 version. Even so, its central idea is still that ordinary users can make something and let other people play it.
That is why Roblox is usually called a platform rather than one game. Blox Fruits, Brookhaven, Ronald's and millions of other games all run inside it, but they were made by different creators.
